This Privacy Policy describes how BikeShare India (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, shares and protects your personal information when you use the BikeShare India website and mobile application. This page is maintained by BikeShare India to answer common privacy questions about our service.
Information We Collect
Account information
When you register, we collect your name, mobile number, email address and the authentication method you choose (OTP, Google or email).
Profile and KYC documents
Bike owners must upload identity and vehicle documents such as Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence, RC book, insurance and PUC certificates to complete verification.
Location data
With your permission we collect your device GPS location to show nearby bikes, estimate distances and improve search results.
Camera and photos
We request camera access so owners can photograph vehicles and documents for verification, and so customers can upload condition checks at pickup or drop-off.
Payment information
Razorpay processes your card, UPI, wallet and net-banking payments. We do not store full card numbers; we keep transaction IDs, amounts and payment status for reconciliation.
Device and usage data
We collect device type, operating system, app version, IP address and in-app activity to maintain security, prevent fraud and improve performance.
How We Use Your Information
Provide the service
We use your data to create and manage bookings, verify owners, process payments, send trip updates and provide customer support.
Safety and trust
Identity and vehicle documents are reviewed before a bike is listed. Ride history and ratings help keep the community safe.
Communication
We send booking confirmations, reminders, support replies and promotional messages. You can opt out of marketing messages at any time.
Legal compliance
We may use or disclose information to comply with applicable laws, respond to legal requests and enforce our terms.
Location Permission
Why we ask
Location permission lets us show bikes near you, sort results by distance, pre-fill pickup cities and provide route estimates.
Your control
You can deny location permission and still search manually. You can change the permission later in your device or browser settings at any time.
Background location
BikeShare India does not collect background location. We only access location when the app is in use.
Camera Permission
Why we ask
Camera access is used to capture vehicle photos, document scans and pickup/drop-off condition images. These images are tied to your account and the relevant listing or booking.
Your control
You can decline camera access and upload images from your gallery instead. Permission can be changed in your device settings.
Identity Verification (KYC)
Purpose
KYC is required for bike owners to confirm identity and vehicle ownership before listing. This protects customers and ensures legal compliance.
Documents collected
We may collect Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence, RC book, insurance and PUC documents. Documents are stored securely and reviewed by our admin team.
Retention
KYC documents are kept for as long as the owner account is active and for the period required by law after account closure.
Payments
Payment processor
All payments are processed by Razorpay. BikeShare India does not store your full card or bank credentials.
Wallet and refunds
Customer wallets store promotional credits and refundable balances. Owner earnings are tracked separately and paid out on request after verification.
Invoices
We generate invoices and receipts for every transaction and make them available in your account.
Data Sharing
Between users
After a booking is confirmed, the customer and owner receive limited contact details needed to coordinate pickup and drop-off. Exact addresses and phone numbers are not shown before confirmation.
Service providers
We share data with Razorpay for payments, Google for maps and analytics, and messaging providers for OTP and notifications. Each provider is contractually bound to protect your data.
Legal disclosure
We may disclose information if required by law, court order or to protect our rights, users or the public.
Data Security
Protection measures
We use encryption in transit, access controls, row-level security in our database and regular security reviews to protect your information.
No guarantee
No system is completely secure. If we learn of a breach that affects your data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
User Rights
Access and correction
You can view and update most profile information from the app. For other requests, contact our support team.
Withdraw consent
You can withdraw consent for optional data processing such as marketing communications and location access at any time.
Data portability
You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you in a commonly used format.
Account Deletion
How to request
You can request account deletion from the profile or support section. We will verify your identity before processing the request.
What is deleted
Personal identifiers, contact details and uploaded documents are removed or anonymised once all active bookings are completed and legal retention periods have passed.
What is retained
Transaction and legal records may be retained for tax, regulatory and dispute-resolution purposes as required by Indian law.
